Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Tamil Nadu on November 19 to inaugurate a three-day National Conference on Organic Farming in Coimbatore.

Though the visit is in connection with the conference on organic farming, which has received the focus of the Union Government, it assumes significance in view of the election to the state assembly early next year.

Over 5000 farmers from all over South India, engaged in organic farming, as well as 50 scientists, are expected to participate in the event being held at the sprawling CODISSIA complex in the textile city. According to BJP sources, the Prime Minister is also slated to interact with the farmers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Arriving on a special flight, he will depart from Coimbatore by the same flight to New Delhi.

Later, Modi is expected to meet BJP office-bearers and leaders from the state, besides leaders of the NDA constituents, including the AIADMK, and discuss the prospects of the alliance and its cohesiveness. The last time the Prime Minister was in Tamil Nadu was in July, to participate in the 100th birth anniversary of the imperial Chola emperor, Rajendra Chola, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, where he offered worship at the temple, erected by the monarch as a replica of the Big Temple at Thanjavur, built by his father, Rajaraja Chola.
