A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday seeking a stay on the demolitions in Bareilly after the September 26 violence.
The PIL, filed by Mohammad Yusuf, president of the Khwaja Garib Nawaz Welfare Society, alleging that the demolitions are being carried out without following due process, demands compensation for those affected by the bulldozer action besides a judicial inquiry by a retired district judge or an independent agency into the demolitions.

Besides, it demands the unsealing of the shops and houses that have been sealed following the violence, causing loss of employment to the people.
The PIL named the state government, Principal Secretary Home, DGP UP, DM Bareilly, Vice President Bareilly Development Authority, SSP Bareilly, SHO Baradari Bareilly, SHO Prem Nagar Bareilly, SHO Cantt Bareilly and SHO Kotwali Bareilly as parties.
The petition has been filed through advocates Shaher Naqvi and Mohammad Arif.
