The Punjab government has declared 7 December as a paid holiday for Rajasthan voters who are working in shops and commercial establishments situated in the areas adjoining Rajasthan so that they can exercise their franchise in Rajasthan Assembly polls.

An official spokesperson said to enable the employees working in shops and commercial establishments situated in areas adjoining the state of Rajasthan, the voters of Rajasthan working in Punjab may be allowed a paid holiday on the day of poll 7 December.

He specified that 7 December will not be a ‘closed day’ in lieu of the weekly off falling between 9 December and 15 December on account of the General Elections to Rajasthan Assembly.

Rajasthan is going to polls on 7 December, along with Telangana, in the last phase of the Assembly elections. In the first two phases, polling were held in Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh. The counting of votes for all five states will take place on 11 December.
