Opposition VP Candidate B Sudershan Reddy to file nomination today

Opposition’s Vice-Presidential candidate pick, Justice (Retd) B Sudershan Reddy, will file his nomination papers at 11:30 AM today. The election to the office of Vice President of India is scheduled to be held on September 9.

Former Supreme Court judge, Justice Reddy was named the joint Opposition candidate earlier this week and will face NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan in the election.

Senior leaders from various Opposition parties are expected to join him in Parliament for the nomination process.

Announcing Reddy’s name as INDIA bloc’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the former Supreme Court judge “reflects, fully, the values that shaped our country’s Freedom Movement so profoundly, and the values on which our country’s Constitution and Democracy have been anchored.”

Kharge on Tuesday announced Reddy’s name as Opposition INDIA bloc’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election 2025.

Announcing Reddy’s name as INDIA bloc’s candidate for the Vice Presidential election, Kharge said that the former Supreme Court “reflects, fully, the values that shaped our country’s Freedom Movement so profoundly, and the values on which our country’s Constitution and Democracy have been anchored.”

The Congress chief further called Reddy “a consistent and courageous champion of social, economic and political justice.”

Balkrishna Sudershan Reddy is a former Supreme Court judge. He was the first Lokayukta of Goa.

Opposition leaders welcomed the INDIA alliance’s choice of former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy as their Vice Presidential candidate, calling it an ideological battle against the BJP’s RSS-backed nominee.

DMK’s Kanimozhi stressed that fielding a Tamil Nadu candidate does not prove BJP’s commitment to the state or its values, while Congress MP K Suresh highlighted Reddy’s strong track record and suitability for the post. Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav framed the contest as a fight to “save the Constitution,” and DMK’s T Siva noted that the decision was taken collectively after thorough consideration.

Meanwhile CPI leader P Sandosh stated that Sudershan is an “eminent jurist” and align with his judgments align with the “soul of the democracy”.
