Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge Friday strongly objected to the presence of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel in the House chamber.

In a letter to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Kharge expressed his shock and dismay at the manner in which CISF personnel were made to run into the Well of the House while members were exercising their democratic right to protest.

He wrote to the deputy chairman on behalf of all Opposition parties, condemning the CISF’s entry into the House as “most objectionable” and wondered if Parliament had been “reduced to such a level.”

The CISF personnel trooped into the House for the second consecutive day, prompting Kharge to caution the government against such conduct and expect that CISF personnel will not enter the House when members raise important issues.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, also shared Kharge’s letter on social media, insinuating a “takeover of the chamber by CISF personnel” and linking it to the sudden resignation of the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

The controversy came amid repeated disruptions in both Houses of Parliament over issues like the Pahalgam terror attack, ‘Operation Sindoor,’ and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The presence of CISF personnel in the House has sparked a heated debate, with the Opposition demanding an explanation and assurance that such incidents will not recur in the future.
