The Vice Presidential election saw a contest between Radhakrishnan, the Maharashtra Governor, and Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge who retired in 2011. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, while Reddy received 300 votes. The election was necessitated after Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21, citing health reasons.

Several leaders have congratulated Radhakrishnan on his election as the 15th Vice President of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge were among those who extended their congratulations. Reddy, despite losing the election, accepted the outcome and emphasized the importance of democratic processes.

The meeting between Reddy and Radhakrishnan is seen as a gesture of goodwill and a sign of respect for the democratic process. It highlights the importance of maintaining cordial relations between political opponents and ensuring a smooth transition of power.
