The BJP on Thursday lambasted Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for endorsing US President Donald Trump’s “dead economy” remark, saying the only thing dead is his own political credibility and legacy.
In a social media post on X, BJP leader Amit Malviya said that Gandhi has hit a new low by echoing Trump’s “dead economy” jibe, calling it a shameful insult to the aspirations and achievements of the Indian people.

“Rahul Gandhi has hit a new low by echoing the “dead economy” jibe — a shameful insult to the aspirations, achievements, and well-being of the Indian people. But let’s be honest — the only thing truly “dead” is Rahul Gandhi’s own political credibility and legacy,” Malviya said while responding to Rahul Gandhi’s post on X.

He further argued that despite the global slowdown, India remains the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
“Even amidst global slowdown, India remains the world’s fastest-growing major economy, with the IMF and World Bank revising growth projections upwards: +20 bps for 2025; +10 bps for 2026,” the BJP leader stated.
Malviya also shared several indicators to counter what he called Rahul Gandhi’s “hollow narrative” about India’s economy.
“Inflation at six-year low, tractor retail sales up 8.7 per cent (June), 3-wheeler production up 8.6%, Air cargo up 8.1%, port cargo up 5.6%, Steel consumption up 7.9%, Renewable electricity generation up 18.2%,
Crude steel up 12.2%, finished steel up 12.5%, Tractor production up 9.8%, cement (production) up 7%, Capital goods (IIP) up 14.1% (May 2025) and RBI’s May 2025 survey shows strong consumer confidence in income, employment, and spending — both rural and urban,” he shared in the post.
“This is not a dead economy. This is a surging, resilient India,” he declared.
His remarks came in response to a post by Rahul Gandhi on X, in which the Congress leader accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of killing the Indian economy.
“THE INDIAN ECONOMY IS DEAD. Modi killed it. 1. Adani-Modi partnership 2. Demonetisation and a flawed GST 3. Failed “Assemble in India” 4. MSMEs wiped out 5. Farmers crushed; Modi has destroyed the future of India’s youth because there are no jobs,” his post read.
