The highway has been shut for vehicular traffic and a rescue operation launched to track any other person trapped under the debris. Three vehicles were crossing the spot when the landslide trapped an Alto car, said senior superintendent of police Mohita Sharma.

Deputy commissioner Ramban district Mussarat Zia said there were reports of a vehicle rolling down and one getting trapped.

However, another huge landslide halted the rescue operation. Huge boulders and shooting stones further created hurdles in the rescue operation.

The killed person has been identified as Surjeet Singh, a resident of Sumber.

Among the injured three were women. Six injured have been identified as Mohammad Taj of kalakote in Rajouri, Hamid, Rubeena Begum, Sakeena Begum, Salma banii and Amir.

The stretch of highway between Ramban and Banihal has been witnessing massive landslides during widening of the road. Its frequent closure was also causing financial loss to fruit traders.
