Security forces shot dead a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist and injured another during an encounter on Saturday in the Babagund area of Pulwama in South Kashmir. The injured terrorist was captured alive.

An Army deserter, Zahoor Ahmad Thokar, who had joined the HM reportedly managed to escape.

An Army spokesman confirmed that a terrorist has been killed in an encounter during the early hours and a weapon has been recovered from the spot.

The slain terrorist has been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar alias Mali of Samboora.

A joint team of Army, SOG of J-K police and CRPF had laid an ambush following a tip off about the presence of Thoker and other terrorists.

Thoker and another terrorist reportedly managed to escape from the spot. However the other terrorist was captured in injured condition from a hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Police said that a team of Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) was passing through the area in a vehicle when it was fired upon by terrorists. Security forces cordoned the area and an encounter broke out.

The injured terrorist, who received a bullet in his abdomen, has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar of Muran in Pulwama and was admitted to the SMHS hospital of the medical college in Srinagar in a critical condition by some unidentified civilians where he was operated upon by doctors.

Meanwhile, a large number of people attended the funeral of slain terrorist Shabir Dar near the Samboora village. A group of terrorists offered gun salute at the time of burial.

In another incident, terrorists barged into the house of a policeman, Javed Ahmad Lone, in Sopore of north Kashmir and shot him dead.

Senior police officers on Saturday paid rich tributes to the slain policeman Javed Lone in a ceremony in the district police lines of Sopore. Lone was shot dead by terrorists in the wee hours in his house at Warpura in Sopore.

On Friday night, terrorists tossed two hand-grenades at an Army patrol party of 2 RR in the Yarigund area of Narbal last night.
