On Union Minister’s ‘UP farewell’ remark, Congress hits back: ‘Let the elections come’

Hitting back at Union Minister Anurag Thakur’s ‘Uttar Pradesh farewell remark’, the Congress on Thursday said that two of the BJP candidates have already fled and asked him to wait for the elections.

“Let the elections approach. Two of their candidates from Uttar Pradesh have already run away…It seems that he is unable to understand the democratic system…,” Congress leader Nana Patole said.

His remarks came hours after Union Minister Anurag Thakur took a dig at the Congress party, saying Uttar Pradesh has bid farewell to the Nehru-Gandhi family.

The big state like UP had given votes to four generations of Nehru-Gandhi family, today no one is listening to them in UP. It’s like the state has bid farewell to Nehru-Gandhi family, so it’s natural to be frustrated and disappointed…” Union Minister Anurag Thakur said on Thursday.

Terming the Congress party’s alliance with Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh a “Thugbandhan”, Thakur said that the grand old party and its allies are habitual of criticising Sanatan Dharma and Hindu religious places.

Thakur’s remarks came amid a strong buzz over Rahul Gandhi contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi again.

Speaking to reporters in Chandauli, Thakur said that people of Uttar Pradesh have not forgotten what Rahul Gandhi said about them after going to Wayanad.

“I thought that the Congress has migrated (from Uttar Pradesh). Uttar Pradesh was never visible in their plans. The words Rahul Gandhi used for the people of Uttar Pradesh after going to Wayanad, the people have not forgotten it.When they (Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi) came here (during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra), even 40 people were not present. The people of Uttar Pradesh are eager to give a strong answer…,” he said.

The minister further added, “The INDI Alliance is filled with arrogance… They are broken today because they have no policy or a leader and their intentions are maligned…”
