Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who called on Union Power Minister Manohar Lal in New Delhi on Tuesday, sought additional Central grants for refurbishing critical concerns in the power sector including disaster resilient power infrastructure in Odisha.

The concerns include early sanction of funds of Rs 3,069 crore under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). As Odisha frequently faces cyclones and floods, the coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) has proposed disaster-resilient power infrastructure with selective underground cabling especially 30 km from the coastline.

Therefore, the state urgently needs Central Financial Assistance for Disaster Resilient Power Infrastructure. Considering the rising demand for power, Singh Deo urged the allocation of 800 MW Power from Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) Talabira Phase-II project in addition to the 400 MW already allocated in Phase-I to Odisha. This would bring total share to 1200 MW from 3200 MW total project capacity.

Odisha has been making significant strides in its power sector development. With these sanctions Odisha will not only benefit its people but also contribute to the national goal of ensuring reliable and resilient power infrastructure across the country.
