Using deceptive tactics of blackmail and extortion, the accused repeatedly coerced the victim into transferring and paying substantial sums of money.

As a result of continuous threats and fraudulent acts, the accused persons succeeded in extorting an aggregate amount of Rs 88 lakh from the victim.

The prime accused, Saroj Jena, developed intimacy with the victim through Facebook and later met him personally at Cuttack. To gain the victim’s confidence, Saroj Jena initially borrowed money and repaid it within the stipulated time.

Thereafter, the accused persons repeatedly demanded money from the victim on false pretexts.

When the victim refused further payment, the accused hatched a plan to extort money by recording a nude video of the victim and blackmailing him.

The accused persons received money directly from the victim through NEFT transactions.

The accused persons were later remanded in judicial custody under Sections 318(4)/319(2) BNS/66 (C)/66 (D) of the Information Technology Act, the police added.
