Amid growing criticism over the rising incidents of crimes against women and minor girls in the state, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating safe and dignified workplaces for women.

Parida made the statement while speaking at an orientation programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013—commonly known as the POSH Act—held at the State Secretariat on Wednesday.

“Both men and women can be victims of sexual harassment. Therefore, it is crucial for everyone to be aware of the provisions of the POSH Act and to remain vigilant,” she emphasized.

Underscoring the importance of gender harmony, Parida stated that “men and women are the two wheels of society,” and called for mutual respect among all genders to build a safe working environment and a progressive society.

She also noted that strict directives have been issued to establish Internal Committees in all institutions and colleges to ensure the effective implementation of the POSH Act.

Parida further assured that appropriate punishment would be ensured for the guilty following proper investigation. She also warned that individuals found making false allegations would face consequences.
