Chhattisgarh: CBI to probe alleged irregularities in PSC Exam-2021
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai during a Cabinet meeting on January 3 this year had decided to refer the matter to the CBI for a comprehensive inquiry.
The fire services had earned a good reputation for its performances during calamities within and outside Odisha.
Odisha cadre IPS officer M Nageswar Rao, who has been appointed as the Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) never had any experience in the anti-corruption wing of the police in Odisha till he went to the CBI.
Rao had worked as SP in four districts, Railway Police Assignments, Armed Police, Crime Branch, and Fire Services, but he did not have a stint with the State Vigilance – the anti-corruption agency in the state.
While many in the IPS circle here were surprised at his induction to the CBI, others said it was rather ‘easy for him” to get in.

His ‘friends’ here credit for having done a great deal of good to the fire service and home guards. It was during his tenure at the helm of the fire services that the government notified it to be the first response wing during natural calamities and he had equipped the fire services and upgraded it.

At the same time, there were talks of irregularities in purchases too. His senior and late Binoy Behera, IPS, had written to the State Home Department, questioning certain actions of Rao. Reliable sources said Rao had also clarified his position and the matter was never probed further by the government.
