Prominent social activists and leaders of people’s movements have demanded immediate advanced medical treatment, adequate security and a high-level impartial inquiry into the alleged assault on Tikiri Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Chameli Ojha of Kendrapara district.
In a joint statement, the activists expressed deep concern over the incident and alleged that the elected woman representative had become a victim of administrative and political vendetta for raising her voice against corruption and irregularities.

Describing Ojha as an educated Dalit woman sarpanch, the activists alleged that the physical assault, mental harassment and subsequent arrest of the sarpanch had raised serious questions about democratic values and the rule of law.
They said her reported injuries and continuing mental trauma could adversely affect her health and demanded that she be shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, for advanced treatment. They also sought special security arrangements for her protection.
They urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the state government to order a high-level, impartial inquiry into the incident and called for an independent investigation into allegations against police officials, the Block Development Officer (BDO) and others allegedly involved, and sought legal action against those found responsible.
Meanwhile, noted environmental activist Prafulla Samantara and Lokashakti Abhiyan secretary Kalyan Anand observed a day-long fast in solidarity with Ojha and in support of the demand for justice.
