Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that reports about the killing of one of the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack during Operation Mahadev were not yet confirmed. However, he added that if the report turns out to be true, it would be a welcome development.

“It’s not confirmed yet. It’s a good thing if it’s confirmed. Since the day of the Pahalgam attack, the police, paramilitary forces, and the army have been pursuing them (the terrorists). If even one of them has been killed in an encounter today, it will be a positive outcome,” he told reporters in Srinagar.

His remarks came in response to multiple media reports claiming that one of the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack was among the three neutralised during Operation Mahadev near Dachigam National Park in Srinagar.

However, there has been no official confirmation so far. Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vidhi Kumar stated that the identification of the slain terrorists was underway and would take some time, as the operation was still in progress.

“The operation is still ongoing. As per preliminary reports, three bodies have been spotted and appear to be neutralised. It will take us some time for identification, and our teams are still inside,” IGP Vidhi Kumar said.

According to the Indian Army, three heavily armed Pakistani terrorists were killed in ‘Operation Mahadev’, a joint operation by the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF, launched in the Harwan area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday.

“Three terrorists have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation continues,” the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army posted on X.

Security forces said contact with the terrorists was established in the morning in the Lidwas area of Srinagar’s upper reaches, in the Harwan region of the Zabarwan mountains.
