Family alleges gross negligence by administration
A day after Yuvraj died, the victim’s family accused the administration of gross negligence. The deceased’s father, Rajkumar Mehta has claimed that timely intervention could have saved his son’s life.
The father said his son cried for help from people, but most of the crowd was just watching or making videos. He said Yuvraj struggled in the water for nearly two hours to save himself. The officials and staff present failed to save him as there was no diver in the rescue team. There is negligence on the part of the administration in this entire matter,” he alleged.
The family has demanded strict action and implementation of safety and rescue arrangements to avoid the occurrence of similar incidents and loss of life in the future.
Meanwhile, Noida Police clarified that all possible measures were taken by the rescue team present at the site to save Yuvraj. As per the police, rescue efforts were initiated immediately with the help of fire brigade ladders, cranes, searchlights and a makeshift boat; however, zero visibility hampered the rescue operation.
According to the police, the accident took place when the car broke through the boundary of a drain at the Sector 150 intersection and fell into the water. The body was recovered after a search operation by SDRF/NDRF teams present at the spot.
Joint Commissioner of Police Rajeev Narain Mishra called the incident “very tragic” and said, “We are with the grieving family. Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR has been registered, and action will be taken against those found guilty.”
After the incident, the Noida Authority has terminated the services of a Junior Engineer. Noida ACEO Satish Pal said, “An explanation has been requested from him… Further investigation is underway.” Also, a team has been constituted by the authority to investigate the incident and previous complaints by society residents.
