Uttarakhand Congress legislator has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash two years ago resulted in heavy tourist flow in the region but the Pushkar Singh Dhami government failed to lay a sewer line and develop infrastructure to meet needed civic amenities.
Dharchula Harish Dhami, while thanking Modi for his visit, alleged that the state government has not even laid a sewer line to meet the challenges of rising tourist flow in his constituency.

“Footfall of the devotees in Dharchula increased manifold after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Adi Kailash. I thank Modi for providing a new direction to the tourism in our area but there is no infrastructure to deal with the crowd. At least a sewer line must be constructed there,” said the senior Congress MLA while speaking in the Uttarakhand assembly in response to Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya’s statement on urban development works done by the Pushkar Singh Dhami government in the state.

Harish Dhami said he and people in his constituency were indebted to Modi but the state government has failed to provide the required infrastructure to meet the challenges of civic facilities resulting from heavy influx of tourists. One year has passed since the Munsyari Municipal Panchayat was constituted but not a single development works has taken place there.
In his reaction to the minister’s statement in the assembly during a special session of the house, the Congress MLA further alleged, “I had been trying hard for 15 years to construct an adequate sewerage system in Dharchula but not a single work has been done yet.”
Later, outside the assembly, the MLA said, “All newly-elected ward members of the Munsyari Municipal Panchayat are persistently complaining that no work was done so far despite reminders to the local administration. Even the prime minister’s visit failed the state government to meet public demand.
Harish Dhami’s praise for the prime minister and condemnation of the state government came during a discussion of 25 years’ achievement and future goals on Wednesday in the special session of the state assembly.
It’s notable that Narendra Modi in his visit to Pithoragarh on October 12, 2023 had made a stay near mount Adi Kailash pilgrimage centre and meditated in front of the peak. He was the first sitting prime minister to visit Adi Kailash Temple and Parvati Kund in Pithoragarh.
The Pushkar Singh Dhami government had been claiming that after the prime minister’s visit, footfall in the area increased manifolds. However, the Opposition MLA complained that no infrastructural support has been created to meet the rising civic facility demands due to tourists inflow.
