Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, putting an end to weeks of speculation, announced on Thursday that he would move to the Rajya Sabha, while assuring that the new government in Bihar will continue to receive his full support and guidance.

Taking to social media platform X, Nitish Kumar expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their continued trust and support over the past two decades. “For more than the past two decades, you have continuously maintained your trust and support in me. With that strength, we have served Bihar and all of you with complete dedication. It was the power of your trust and support that has enabled Bihar today to present a new dimension of development and dignity. For this, I have expressed my gratitude to you many times before as well,” he wrote.

The Chief Minister also said that since the beginning of his parliamentary career, he had long wished to serve in both Houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both Houses of Parliament. “Since the beginning of my parliamentary life, I had a wish in my heart that I would become a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both Houses of Parliament. In the current election I wish to become a member of the Rajya Sabha,” he added.

Assuring people that his association with them will continue, the JD(U) chief reassured his commitment to build a developed Bihar will remain unchanged. “I want to assure you with complete honesty that my relationship with you will continue in the future as well, and together with you the resolve to build a developed Bihar will remain firm as before. The new government that will be formed will have my full support and guidance,” he said.

His decision marks a significant moment in Bihar’s politics. After serving the state as Chief Minister for over two decades, Nitish Kumar is expected to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha later today, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah set to be present on the occasion.

Amid discussions about Nitish Kumar moving to Delhi, speculation has intensified in Bihar about a possible leadership change and the likelihood of his son, Nishant Kumar, being given a new responsibility.
