Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday intensified the Opposition’s attack on the BJP-led Centre over the cancellation of the NEET 2026 examination, alleging that repeated paper leaks had shattered public trust in the country’s examination system and plunged millions of students into uncertainty and distress.
In a post on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav questioned the credibility of the government’s promise to reconduct the examination, asking, “What guarantee is there that the examination will not be leaked again when it is reconducted?”

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said the cancellation had triggered “immense anger and despair” among lakhs of students and crores of parents, accusing the BJP government of allowing corruption and institutional failure to dominate the education system.
“This news has triggered immense anger and despair among millions of students and their crores of family members against the BJP’s corrupt system,” Yadav said, as political criticism mounted over the handling of national-level competitive examinations.
The NEET examination, held annually for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country, has faced repeated allegations of paper leaks, irregularities and administrative lapses in recent years. The latest controversy erupted after reports of an alleged leak of the NEET 2026 question paper surfaced shortly before the examination, prompting demands for cancellation and a fresh test.
Launching a broader attack on the ruling party, Yadav alleged that examination leaks had become a defining feature of governance under the BJP. “As long as the corrupt BJP government remains in power, the examination system will continue to run on a trail of leaks,” he said.
He further asserted that “as long as the BJP government remains, exams will continue to be leaked; only after the BJP leaves will the examination system function properly,” while accusing the Centre of repeatedly failing to protect the future of students despite recurring controversies surrounding recruitment and entrance examinations.
In a sharp concluding remark, the Samajwadi Party leader declared, “A BJP government means a failed government.”
