The Congress leader and former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has accepted the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor, scheduled on November 9.

Sidhu is the prime voice of the Kartarpur Corridor as he proposed the construction of the Corridor that will connect Sikh holy shrines of Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan.

As per the press release by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sidhu thanked Pakistan Prime Minister for his invitation to the inauguration.

“I am grateful to the Prime Minister for inviting me to the historic inauguration of Kartarpur Corridor,” said Sidhu.

Imran Khan’s party’s Senator Faisal Javed had contacted Sidhu and extended the invitation for the inauguration of the Corridor.

Congress leader said that the Sikh community all over the world look forward to visit the holy shrine associated with their spiritual leader Baba Guru Nanak.

“The Kartarpur Corridor agreement sends a positive message to millions of Sikhs around the world,” he is quoted as having said by the Pakistani media.

In August 2018, Navjot Singh Sidhu triggered a controversy by attending the oath ceremony of Imran Khan in Pakistan where he hugged the Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa. During his visit, he proposed the construction of Kartarpur Corridor for the ease of Sikh pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.
