Amidst the ongoing tussle between Andhra Pradesh and the Centre over granting of special status to the state, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday took out a cycle rally in the capital Amravati to press for his demand.

Dressed in a bright yellow shirt and white pants, Naidu paddled to the state secretariat swarmed by hundreds of party workers and security personnel.

Senior leaders along with legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) accompanied Naidu on bikes as part of the state-wide stir.

The cycle rally comes two days after Naidu accused the BJP-led NDA government of betraying the state’s people on a special status to the bifurcated state and sought opposition support to get the demand met.

Naidu accused the Centre of “playing” with the emotions of the people of his state, days after the TDP pulled out of the National Democratic Alliance over the government’s failure to give a special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

He said he waited till the last Union Budget before withdrawing from the NDA and its government and breaking ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which was also part of a ruling coalition in the state.

Naidu said the government kept telling him that that it was not going to give special status because of the 14th Finance Commission.
