After a man was pushed in front of a moving train at Mulund railway station in Mumbai, Kurla government railway police arrested a 38-year-old woman in connection with the incident. Another accused in absconding.

The woman was identified as Manisha Khakadiya after police scanned CCTV footage from the station.

The deceased, Deepak Patwa, was a businessman who lived in Mulund with his wife and son. According to his relatives, Patwa worked in Powai and would have boarded a train at Mulund station between 2 pm and 2.30 pm. Patwa had an office in Masjid Bunder’s Loha Bazaar, and was headed towards it when the incident took place.

Khakadiya told police that the deceased, Deepak Patwa, had touched her inappropriately on the overbridge at the station and had followed the man to the platform to pull him up for his behaviour, said a Kurla railway police official.

“She has said that an argument broke out between her and Patwa and he fell off the platform in the melee,” the official said.

Patwa was run over by a train after allegedly being pushed off the platform by Khakadiya and a man on Saturday, officials said.

As per media reports, after Khakadiya raised an alarm and got into an argument with him, a man from the crowd also joined her and began to argue with Patwa.

The man, who was unrelated to Khakadiya, got into an heated argument with Patwa. A scuffle ensued and in the melee, Patwa landed on the track and a train ran him over.

As per Hindustan Times news report, the man was nabbed by a crowd, however, he managed to escape, while Khakadiya in the ensuing commotion fled from the scene.

The incident was captured on the CCTV cameras at Mulund station, said railway official.
