Heavy rains lashed parts of Maharashtra’s Mumbai overnight throwing normal life out of gear. The weather department has issued a red alert and has predicted heavy rains to continue till Monday for India’s financial capital.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall to continue in north Konkan areas including Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for the next 4-6 hours.

The Thane municipal corporation has alerted residents of intense rainfall to continue in Thane, Palghar, Raigad during the next four hours following a fresh cautionary from the IMD.
All government schools will remain closed in Thane and Palghar today.
A high tide warning of 4.90 metres has also been issued for the afternoon and will be on all days till Monday.
In view of heavy rain warning and ‘red alert’ issued by the IMD, the BMC has issued a ‘beach safety appeal to citizens’.
Strong winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail along and off Maharashtra coast, the weather department informed.
Road and rail traffic has been severely affected in the city due to waterlogging in Mumbai and adjoining areas. Suburban trains are experiencing delays and are running at a “cautious speed” as a precautionary measure.
The city’s traffic police have cautioned the residents to stay indoors and leave their houses only if necessary.
As per weather forecast, Intense spells of rain likely to continue in the next 4 hrs and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hrs.

However, flight operations have remained unaffected at the Mumbai airport, the airport spokesperson informed.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai-Goa national highway in Maharashtra has been closed for traffic following a landslide caused by rainfall in the wee hours of Saturday.
