Taking a serious note of dereliction of duty and addressing multiple complaints from residents, Punjab Local Government Minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Wednesday ordered immediate suspension of Junior Engineer Naresh Kumar and Sanitary Inspector Varinder Singh of the Municipal Council, Morinda.
In the early hours, the Cabinet minister, accompanied by local MLA Dr Charanjit Singh, conducted a surprise inspection of Ward Nos. 5 and 6, Chunni Road near the Rest House, as well as Wards 13, 14, and 15, including Purana Bassi Road and Shiv Nanda School Road.

The inspection revealed large-scale mismanagement in garbage collection and widespread littering of household waste across these areas.

Citing lax work culture and poor management of sanitation and cleanliness by the Municipal Council, the minister also ordered the transfer of Executive Officer Parwinder Singh Bhatti with immediate effect.
During the visit, residents of Wards 5 and 6 highlighted the persistent issue of a blocked sewage system, which had caused stagnant water on roads, affecting both residences and the main thoroughfare.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Dr Ravjot Singh issued a directive to Executive Engineer of the Sewage Board, Mr Rajiv Kapoor, to ensure that all blocked sewage lines in the area are cleared within one month. The Minister further announced that he would revisit the site after a month to personally review the progress.
Also present during the inspection were ADC (Urban) Pooja Seyal Grewal, SDM Morinda Sukhpal Singh, Urban Area President (Morinda) Navdeep Singh Tony, Jagtar Singh, Nirmalpreet Meharwan, Vivek Sharma, and Jagdev Singh Bittu.
