At least 14 people were killed and 12 others were injured after a truck ploughed into a crowd, including bikes and cars, in Loha Mandi under the limits of Harmada Police Station in Jaipur on Monday.

According to initial reports, locals, who caught the driver of the truck, found him under the influence of alcohol. Besides running over pedestrians, he reportedly crushed at least 17 vehicles under the wheels.

The police, soon after arriving at the scene of the mishap, diverted the traffic and rushed the injured to a hospital.

According to the police, CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced in which the truck can be seen ramming into vehicles and people on the road at a speed of over 100 kmph.

As per eyewitness accounts, the truck that was coming from the wrong direction first crushed a motorcycle at the intersection before ramming into three more vehicles.

According to official spokespersons at the Kanwantia Government Hospital and the SMS Hospital, 10 people were brought dead at the Kanwantia Hospital, one died on the way to the SMS Hospital, and two succumbed at the SMS Hospital.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has condoled the deaths, terming the road accident “extremely tragic and heart-wrenching.”

He also directed concerned authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured.

“The road accident that occurred in the Lohamandi area of Harmada in Jaipur, resulting in loss of life, is extremely tragic and heart-wrenching. The concerned authorities have been directed to ensure proper treatment for the injured,” CM Sharma said on X.

Deputy CM Dr Prem Chand Bairwa, who also holds the Transport Portfolio, said, “necessary instructions have been issued to the district administration, in continuous communication with them, to ensure that the injured receive the best medical facilities.”
