Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Wednesday alleged that the Election Commission was altering the electoral rolls in Bihar by registering non-residents as voters and allowing BJP supporters to create multiple fake voter IDs, besides large-scale deletion of voters’ names.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, he said that Bhikhubhai Dalsania, the BJP’s in-charge for Bihar, has become a voter in Patna, whereas earlier he had voted in Gujarat in 2024.

The RJD leader alleged that the Election Commission is working at a war footing to cut opposition votes and add them in the BJP’s favour. He claimed that after deleting 65 lakh names from voter lists, the Election Commission is helping BJP leaders get multiple electoral IDs.

Tejashwi said: “Earlier, I had raised the issue of dual voter IDs issued to Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha, following which the Election Commission issued a notice to him—ironically, only from one district, while he should have received notices from both districts.”

“Today, I reveal another case of two EPIC cards issued to a BJP leader and her two relatives. Senior BJP leader and Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi also has two EPIC IDs—REM1251917 and GSB1835164—registered under two different booths in the same assembly constituency, with two different ages,” he said.

Tejashwi alleged that her two brothers-in-law, Manoj Kumar and Dilip Kumar, sons of Asharfi Lal, also have two separate EPIC cards each, registered under two different booths, giving them two votes each.

He said that the fact that these individuals managed to get two different EPIC cards in the same assembly constituency proves large-scale irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

“If the Election Commission is making such mistakes, then what is the point of SIR?” he asked.

He accused the Election Commission of ignoring objections, saying that even when 300 MPs went to meet the Commission, they were not granted an audience. Complaints and suggestions from the opposition are not being heard.

Tejashwi announced that starting from 17 August, a ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ (Vote Rights March) will be launched from Rohtas. The state-wide Yatra will be led by the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, himself (Tejashwi), and top leaders of other parties of the INDIA bloc.
