Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that manufacturing is declining in India and blamed the Central government for it. He passed the remarks during his visit to the BMW World museum in Munich, Germany.
“India needs to start producing; production is the key to success in any country. Our manufacturing is declining; it should actually be going up,” Rahul Gandhi said during his guided tour of BMW Welt and the BMW Plant in Munich.

Also, after he visited the BMW plant, the Congress party took to the social media platform X to attack the Centre and reiterate Rahul Gandhi’s statement. The post read: “Manufacturing is the backbone of strong economies. Sadly, manufacturing is declining in India. For us to accelerate growth, we need to produce more – build meaningful manufacturing ecosystems, and create high-quality jobs at scale.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) refuted Rahul Gandhi’s remark, calling it “fake” against India’s growth story. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari asserted that there has been a 495 per cent growth in total electronics manufacturing over the last 10 years, with exports growing by 760 per cent, and a 14-time increase in the automobile manufacturing since 1991.
Bhandari posted on X: “Rahul Gandhi has once again lied about India’s growth story. Rahul loves to hate India’s growth story through his FAKE NEWS! Number speaks for themselves. Electronics Manufacturing (2014-15 vs 2024-25) Total electronics production 2014-15: Rs 1.9 lakh crore 2024-25: Rs 11.3 lakh crore +495 per cent increase (6x growth), Electronics exports 2014-15: Rs 38,000 crore 2024-25: Rs 3.27 lakh crore, +760 per cent increase (8.6x growth). Mobile phone production value 2014-15: Rs 18,000 crore 2024-25: Rs 5.45 lakh crore +2,928 per cent increase (30x growth). Mobile phone exports 2014-15: Rs 1,500 crore 2024-25: Rs 2 lakh crore +13,233 per cent increase (133x growth).”
BJP dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s claim as a lie and highlighted that under the leadership of PM Modi, India’s growth story has been real and accelerating.
Rahul Gandhi is in Germany on a five-day tour. He will be participating in an Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) event in Berlin later today. During the visit, Gandhi is scheduled to meet several IOC leaders from across Europe.
