Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, is all set to make her poll debut during the Lok Sabha elections 2024. In its first list of 195 candidates, the BJP has named Bansuri Swaraj as it’s candidate from New Delhi constituency.

The New Delhi constituency is currently held by Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, who is likely to be fielded from East Delhi or the North West Delhi constituency.

Bansuri was among the 28 women who featured in the BJP’s first list of candidates, which also included Smriti Irani, Jyoti Mirdha and Congress turncoat Geeta Koda.

A lawyer by profession, Bansuri entered politics last year when she was appointed as co-convener of the Delhi BJP’s legal department.

Bansuri has 16 years of experience in the legal profession. She has also worked as the additional advocate general for the state of Haryana.

She is an alumnus of BPP law school in London and completed her master’s form St Catherine’s College, University of Oxford.

Besides Bansuri, the BJP has fielded Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi and Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni Chowk.

Elsewhere, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will once again contest from Varanasi, Home Minister Amit Shah from Gandhinagar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow.

The first list of BJP also features heavyweights like Rajiv Chandrashekhar from Thiruvananthapuram, Smriti Irani from Amethi, Jitendra Singh from Udhampur, Kiren Rijiju from Arunachal West, Sarbananda Sonowal from Dibrugarh, and Mansukh Mandaviya from Porbandar.

The other major names in the list includes former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha, Bhupendra Yadav from Alwar, Om Birla from Kota, Bandi Sanjay Kumar from Karimnagar, G Kishen Reddy from Secunderabad, and Biplab Deb from Tripura West, among others.
