CPI leadership and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan faced severe criticism at the party’s ongoing Kottayam district conference being held in Vaikom.
During a discussion on the 106-page report presented by District Secretary Adv. V B Binu, the delegates participating in the conference came down heavily on the party leadership for not being able to stand firm on its positions and for allegedly lacking a dynamic leadership. They contended that neither Pinarayi Vijayan nor the CPI-M gives due consideration to the party’s position.

The delegates said the party’s state leadership is so weak that no one questions the policies of the CPI-M.
Some of the delegates came out against the functioning of the chief minister, stating that he (the chief minister) is behaving like a dictator and does not take even a single minister in the cabinet into confidence while taking decisions. Others called the party’s Lok Sabha debacle in the state a reflection of the people’s ire. However, they said, the government doesn’t seem to be in a mood to go for a course correction.
Criticizing the CPI ministers in the cabinet, the delegates said all four departments run by party ministers are a failure. The Civil Supplies Department has become a laughing stock, unable to contain price hikes, they alleged.
There was also criticism against the Finance Department. The delegates said that the department is suffocating the CPI-ruled departments by not providing sufficient funds.
The LDF government’s liquor policy also came under severe criticism from the delegates. They said the liquor policy, which is contrary to the LDF policies, has destroyed the traditional toddy industry.
