Union Minister Nitin Gadkari dismisses reports of “quitting politics”
Earlier on Thursday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also conducted an aerial inspection of the construction work of the Mumbai-Goa highway.
Now, the government is set to come up with a law against those who do not pay toll tax. Those who adopt ways to avoid toll tax will be brought under the purview of this law.
According to sources, the Central government is preparing to change the rules related to toll tax soon. It can bring a bill related to toll tax. Union minister Nitin Gadkari has already indicated that in the coming days, the entire work of toll tax collection will be done through technology.
Nitin Gadkari recently said that there is a plan to remove the toll plaza and install cameras. In the year 2019, a rule has been framed according to which all vehicles will come with company-fitted number plates. That’s why the vehicles that have come in the last four years have different number plates on them.

Before 2024, 26 green expressways will be ready in the country and India will be at par with America in terms of roads. The Union Minister said that in the coming days emphasis will also be laid on the use of technology to collect toll tax. Now the cameras installed on the highway will read these number plates and the toll will be deducted directly from the bank account.
The government is also running a pilot project regarding this plan. There is a need to bring a law against those who do not pay toll tax. At present, there is no provision in the law to punish the vehicle owner who leaves the toll plaza and does not pay the toll. The government can also bring a new rule for such vehicles, which will tamper with the number plate. Such vehicles will be asked to install number plates within the stipulated time.
Gadkari said that at present if a person travels a distance of even 10 kilometres on the toll road, then he has to pay a fee of 75 kilometres, but in the new system, only the distance covered will be charged.
