Kavinder Gupta resigns as Ladakh LG within 9 months of taking oath
Sources said that the BJP high command might assign him some important assignment in the party setup during the assembly polls in West Bengal.

The Lt governor laid a wreath on the mortal remains of late Naib Subedar Chhering Motup, observed silence and paid last tributes as the latter’s funeral took place with full state honours.

He also met with the bereaved family members and relatives of late Chhering Motup and offered his condolences and expressed grief, stating that Ladakh has lost a son of the soil who cannot be replaced for years to come.

Chhering Motup, from the Khachepa family of Likir village, passed away on Sunday at 80.
He joined the Ladakh Scouts in 1965 and was awarded the Ashok Chakra-India’s highest peacetime gallantry award- in 1985 for his extraordinary courage during a mission on the Saltoro Ridge in Siachen. His late son, Tsewang Morup, was a Vir Chakra awardee.
On 21 February 1985, Lance Havildar Chhering Motup led a team of soldiers that attacked and captured a crest line overlooking an Indian post on the Saltro Ridge at the Siachen Glacier in extremely hostile weather and poor visibility. He was awarded the Ashok Chakra for the gallantry displayed by him.
He retired as an Honorary Naib Subedar on 1 July 1989.
Top brass of the Army and civil administration of Ladakh attended the funeral of Chhering. Chairman and CEC of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Tashi Gyalson was present at the funeral.
Among others, GOC 14 Corps of the Indian Army, Lt General Hitesh Bhalla; Chief Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal, DGP Ladakh, Dr SD Singh Jamwal, SSP Leh, Shruti Arora; Army personnel, district officials and a large number of villagers from Likir and adjoining areas were present at the funeral.
