Labourer killed, 2 injured as goods train hits railway trolley in Odisha

A contractual labourer was killed and two others were injured when a goods train hit a railway trolley being used for track maintenance at Odisha’s Rayagada railway station.

In Rayagada yard, an incident of entanglement of the umbrella of a push trolley with the moving wagon of a goods train occurred on Thursday morning. The trolley was between Line No 4 and 5 at the yard and was not on any track.

Unfortunately, a contractual labourer got hit by the goods train and died, the East Coast Railway said in a statement.

Besides two others, a labourer and a trolley man, sustained injury in the mishap. They were rushed to the nearby hospital and were discharged after due medical attention.

Senior railway officials have rushed to the mishap site immediately and have initiated a probe into the incident. Suitable compensation is being provided to the deceased’s family members, said ECoR in a statement.
