Numerous compliance violations by the bus company have come to light… We demand a thorough inquiry, appropriate compensation of at least ₹1 crore for each victim, and strict action against non-compliant travel agencies.”
Tragedy struck Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district in the early hours of Friday when a private bus operated by Kaveri
Travels caught fire near Chinnatekur village in Kallur mandal, leaving at least 20 passengers dead. The vehicle was en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when the accident occurred around 3 a.m., after it collided with a motorcycle on the highway.
According to police, the two-wheeler got trapped under the bus, rupturing the fuel tank and triggering a massive explosion that engulfed the vehicle in flames within seconds. Most passengers were asleep at the time, leaving little chance to escape.
Out of 41 passengers, 21 managed to survive, including both bus drivers.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and potential lapses in safety compliance by the private operator.
