Congress leader K C Venugopal Saturday claimed that the Kerala local body election results are a clear signal of a massive sweep for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the upcoming 2026 Assembly Elections.

In a post on X, Venugopal asserted, “The people of Kerala have spoken! Today’s Local Body Election results are only a trailer for the massive UDF sweep coming in the 2026 Assembly Elections!”

He launched a sharp attack on the incumbent Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which has been in power since 2021. Venugopal stated that the LDF has been “exposed” and has transformed into a “corrupt, authoritarian, and anti-people regime”.

“This is just the beginning. In 2026, many ‘Red Fortresses’ will collapse, the UDF flag will fly high – and Kerala will continue its tradition of firmly rejecting the BJP’s divisive, polarising politics that seek to weaken our unity and social harmony,” he added.

The Congress-led UDF achieved a decisive victory in the 2025 Kerala local body elections, while the incumbent LDF experienced a significant defeat. In a historic first, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) captured the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

The positive local body results provide a crucial boost for the UDF as it seeks to regain momentum and prepare for next year’s Assembly Elections.
