Kerala CM slams Bill to remove CM/PM; says ploy to hunt down non-BJP govts

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday came out against the controversial bills that propose laws to remove the Prime Minster , Chief Ministers and Ministers in states and Union Territories, if they are arrested for over 30 days on charges that carry jail sentence of at least five years, saying that those (the bills) are a ploy by the Sangh Parivar to hunt down non-BJP governments.

Chief Minister Vijayan, in a statement here on Wednesday said the Constitutional Amendment Bills introduced in the Lok Sabha can only be seen as part of the political decision of the Central government to hunt down state governments. He said this is the continuation of the politics of vendetta and hunting using central investigative agencies.

The veteran CPI-M leader, in his statement urged all democratic forces in the country to raise strong protests against the “Sangh Parivar’s anti-democratic move targeting political opponents”.

He said there is already a move to destabilize state governments by using central agencies as a weapon. As part of this, Chief Ministers and Ministers who hold constitutional positions in the country were kept in jail for a long time. But the frustration that they did not resign was behind the hasty introduction of the Constitutional Amendment bills, CM Vijayan said

He said the BJP is trying to implement a new experiment of neo –fascist politics of imprisoning in false cases and disqualifying them for it .The new move is a continuation of the efforts to take away the constitutional rights of the states and to establish that the governors have veto power over the legislature, Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Stating that there is a need to come out united against the present Constitutional Amendments , he urged all democratic forces in the country to raise strong protests against the “Sangh Parivar’s anti-democratic move targeting political opponents”.
