In the wake of the Kottayam District Police chief’s report mentioning Erattupetta a place with terrorist presence, the BJP has urged Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately intervene to address the escalating presence of anti-national forces in Kottayam and Idukki districts.

BJP Central Zone President N Hari has written a letter to the Home Minister requesting him to take proactive measures to counter the growing strength of the ant-national forces in Kottayam and Idukki districts.

N Hari, in his letter, said the activists of the Popular Front of India, after the ban of the outfit, have aligned themselves with other parties and are engaged in terrorist activities.

The indication on terrorism issues at Erattupetta area in Kottayam was mentioned in the report submitted to the state police chief by district police chief K Karthik IPS.

Kottayam District Police Chief K Karthik recommended the setting up of an anti-terrorism squad office in Erattupetta due to the presence of significant terrorist activity in the region.

After receiving a request from the Revenue Department to release three acres of land owned by the police in Poonjar for the construction of a mini-civil station there, the DGP sought a detailed report from Kottayam SP Karthik.

In response to this, the SP submitted a report to the DGP recommending the construction of an anti-terrorism squad office in Erattupetta.

The Kottayam District Police Chief’s report mentioning Eratupetta a place with terrorist presence, has sparked a controversy in Kerala. The SDPI and CPI-M local leaders have demanded action against SP K Karthik.

It has, meanwhile, been reported that the NIA has also mentioned Erattupetta a place with terrorist presence.

The NIA , in a report, has included Erattupetta among the villages and towns with terrorist presence in Kerala.

The central agencies had stepped up their surveillance in places including Erattupetta amidst reports that terror sleeper cells have intensified their activities in Kerala.
