Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday at a rally in Karnataka’s Bidar.

Addressing a mammoth gathering of Congress supporters in the northern edge of the poll-bound state, the 47-year-old Gandhi attacked the BJP over a host of issues ranging from treatment of Dalits and corruption.

“The BJP-RSS is assaulting Dalits across the nation while PM Modi remains silent,” he alleged.

“The Karnataka government alone spends half of the total amount spent by the Government of India on Dalits and tribals,” said Gandhi at the public meeting which is part of the party’s political campaign called ‘Jana Aashirwada Yatre’.

He also attacked the Modi government over the Nirav Modi scam and Jay Shah’s company.

“While businesses in India are having a difficult time, the firm owned by the son of BJP President turned Rs 50,000 into Rs 80 crore,” he alleged.

He reiterated the Congress’ charge on Railway Minister Piyush Goyal while adding that the PM never speaks on the issues.

“Their minister Piyush Goyal doesn’t tell the nation about his company, hides and then sells the company. They earn crores but Modi doesn’t utter a word,” said Gandhi.

“When the Congress comes to power in 2019, we will waive the loans of farmers within 10 days of coming to power,” he said alleging that the Modi government has not waived off loans of farmers in the last four years.

He also took a dig at the rising number of rape cases in BJP-ruled states.

“The slogan, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, is now ‘ Beti Bachao BJP ke MLA se’ (save daughters from BJP MLA),” said Gandhi referring to the alleged rape of a girl by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP MLA from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh.

Before addressing the meeting, Gandhi paid his respects at Gurudwara Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb in Bidar. Karnataka goes to polls on 12 May. The counting will be held on 15 May.
