Despite the cordial atmosphere, sources reveal the discussion reached “a bit of an impasse,” with Siddaramaiah reportedly insisting that Shivakumar should only assume the Chief Minister’s post after he completes his term in 2028. Both leaders publicly emphasized their commitment to abide by the party high command’s final decision.

“A productive discussion on Karnataka’s priorities and the road ahead,” Shivakumar posted on social media platform X, echoed by Siddaramaiah’s affirmation of following the high command’s guidance.
The internal tussle intensified after Siddaramaiah’s return as Chief Minister in 2023 under a supposed power-sharing arrangement with Shivakumar, who commands significant influence within the state unit.
With the Congress central leadership, under Mallikarjun Kharge, set to hold a strategy meeting on November 30, all eyes are on the impending decision that will shape Karnataka’s political future.
Shivakumar is also expected to visit Delhi soon for talks with Congress President Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, indicating ongoing negotiations behind the scenes.
Meanwhile, political opponents remain watchful. BJP’s Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, dismissed the leadership drama as irrelevant to voters and criticized the Congress government for neglecting governance and development concerns.
As Karnataka’s political saga unfolds, the breakfast meeting serves as a fleeting moment of harmony but also underscores the complex balancing act facing the Congress party.
The ultimate outcome will not only determine the state’s leadership but also influence the party’s prospects in upcoming elections.
