The Congress-JD(S) coalition government led by HD Kumaraswamy lost the vote of trust in the Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday.

The vote of trust was conducted after the resignation of 16 MLAs of the ruling coalition plunging it to a minority.

While 105 MLAs voted against the government, 99 MLAs voted for the government in the 224 member Assembly.

Earlier, police had imposed prohibitory orders in Bengaluru under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and banned the sale of liquor from 6 pm Tuesday to 6 am on Thursday.

The Congress-Janata Dal (S) coalition government had been on shaky ground following the resignation of 16 MLAs about two weeks ago.

“The government received 99 votes, while 105 members have voted against it,” Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar confirmed after counting the votes.
