Bad weather forces Rahul to cancel Almora rally, return to Delhi
Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's Almora rally was cancelled on Thursday owing to bad weather conditions in the Kumaon region.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi today, Rahul alleged that the Election Commission of India didn’t provide the information the CID had sought despite 18 reminders.
Following Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s explosive claims regarding the alleged ‘vote chori’ in Karnataka’s Aland Assembly Constituency, the Chief Electoral Officer of the South Indian state has refuted his allegations that the Election Commission of India stalled Karnataka CID investigation into the case.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi today, Rahul alleged that the Election Commission of India didn’t provide the information the CID had sought despite 18 reminders.

As per Rahul Gandhi, the Karnataka CEO had also sought the information, but the ECI didn’t respond to its state office as well.

Now, the Karnataka CEO had dismissed the allegations and released the details of the Aland case.

It said, “RO, 46-Aland received 6,018 applications in Form 7, which were submitted online using various apps such as NVSP, VHA, GARUDA during December 2022.”
Suspecting the genuineness of such a large number of applications submitted online for deletion of electors’ names in 46-Aland LAC in Karnataka, verification of each application was conducted by ERO/AERO/BLOs.
During the investigation, the CEO said, “Only 24 applications were found to be genuine and another 5,994 were found to be incorrect. Accordingly, 24 applications were accepted, and 5,994 incorrect applications were rejected and not deleted.”
It further stated, “Based on the inquiry findings by BLOs, ERO 46-Al and LAC lodged an FIR with the Inspector of Police, Aland Police Station, Kalaburagi district (FIR No.26/2023 Alanda Police Station dated 21.02.2023).”
The CEO, Karnataka, said that it handed over all the available information to the Superintendent of Police, Kalaburagi district, on 6 September 2023.
“The shared information included the objector’s details, including Form Reference Number, name of the Objector, his EPIC number and mobile number used for log-in and mobile number provided by the Objector for processing, software application medium, IP address, applicant place, Form submission date and time, and user creation date,” it said.
The Karnataka CEO said that after providing the requested information, meetings were also conducted by the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, with the Investigating Officer and Cyber Security experts of the Police to review the progress of the investigation.
“CEO, Karnataka has already been providing any other assistance/information/documents to the investigating agency,” it added.
