In the BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh, an executive officer of the Muzaffarnagar Nagar Palika and a junior engineer of Bhokarhedi Nagar panchayat have been booked for the negligence of duty after a cow died at a newly constructed shelter allegedly due to cold.

The officials told that the Executive Officer VM Tripathi and the JE, Moolchand were booked after the cow was found dead at the state government-run shelter on Saturday.

A case was registered at the New Mandi Police Station under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, the officials said.

After Yogi Adityanath came in power in UP, the protection of cows has been a critical subject for the government in the state.

Various government schemes were launched and others are in the pipeline for the betterment and protection of cows in the state after the Adityanath assumed power in 2017 in the state.

One of the prominent schemes for the protection of cows was the cow safari scheme under which parks will be launched for cows and in each park, around 15,000 to 25,000 cows will be kept and tourists will be given the opportunity to pay a visit.
