The Jharkhand High Court has allowed Chief Minister Hemant Soren to skip personal appearance before the MP-MLA Court in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate related to an alleged land scam.
Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary passed the order on Wednesday while hearing Soren’s petition that challenged the MP-MLA Court’s directive asking him to appear in person. The High Court said he may be represented by his counsel, bringing relief to the chief minister.

The ED had filed a complaint alleging that Soren had ignored several summons during its investigation into suspected land-deal irregularities. According to the agency, ten summons were issued, and Soren appeared only twice.
Soren moved the High Court after the special judge of the MP-MLA Court ordered him to be present during the hearing of the complaint. The High Court had earlier stayed the lower court’s order, and on Wednesday disposed of the matter while granting an exemption from personal appearance.
The exemption applies only to court attendance. The ED case and related proceedings continue.
