Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday emphasized that India’s maritime journey, which is of thousands of years, is a symbol of mutual respect and partnerships among continents.
He noted that the journey is not just a country’s own, but a shared story of global connections, spanning cultures and generations.

Sonowal, on Tuesday unveiled the logo ofir the proposed National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Gujarat’s Lothal, and expressed confidence that it is going to become an important destination for tourists, and will also inspire the youth to to explore the possibilities and innovate in the maritime sector.
He said it is not just a government initiative but a national movement to revive, celebrate ,and sustain the country’s glorious maritime past.
On the second day of the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, the Union minister also released the NMHC research report, and also inaugurated the Maritime Heritage Day celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, he invited domestic and international investors to explore investment opportunities in the NMHC ecosystem, in components such as eco resorts , sustainability and heritage tourism.
He said these will not be just projects, but platforms of innovation, storytelling and global engagement. With combined efforts, NMHC can be made a beacon of India’s maritime pride and a landmark on the global map..
Meanwhile, MoS Ports and Shipping Shantanu Thakur said the ministry is committed to put in efforts to preserve the country’s maritime heritage.
