Science was not a challenge for India, but its translation was a bottleneck for our country, said Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson, Biocon, on Wednesday as she noted the 21st century belongs to Biology and Biotechnology, led by AI.

She made the remarks while delivering a virtual address for the third annual industry business meet, Synergistic Collaboration in Healthcare Innovation (SYNCHN), at a Biotech Science Cluster in Faridabad organised by Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), a premier national research institution.

“Value is created only when scientific excellence matches translational excellence through cross-boundary trust and collaboration,” said Shaw as she drew attention to the importance of institutions like THSTI and platforms like SYNCHN for creating an ecosystem for seamless transition from discovery to commercialisation.

The event brought together prominent global health leaders, biotechnology experts, venture capitalists, startups, and policymakers to address coordination gaps and build a concrete pipeline to transfer lab-bench science into commercial-scale patient solutions.

According to the officials from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), multiple panel discussions focused on fast-tracking scientific discoveries, moving them from lab to real-world, building competitive manufacturing ecosystems, understanding the regulatory aspects, and how to bridge the gap for commercialisation, among others, took place during the single-day event.
