The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday asserted that India does not support illegal immigration while responding to reports of 30 Indian truck drivers being deported from the United States.

Addressing his weekly media briefing here, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “India does not, in any manner, support illegal immigration. We, in fact, cooperate with the United States.”

“Whenever cases of deportation are referred to us, we verify the nationality of the individuals concerned. Once their nationality is confirmed, they are deported, and we receive our nationals,” he said.

“As far as the exact number of cases referred to us by the United States is concerned, I do not have an update to share at this point, but I will certainly get back to you,” the MEA spokesperson added.
