India-Angola Ties Strengthened as President Murmu Meets Angolan Counterpart

President Droupadi Murmu’s historic visit to Angola has taken a significant step forward, with her meeting Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco and holding delegation-level talks, the President’s Secretariat said on Sunday.

“The partnership between India and Angola is built on mutual trust, respect and a shared vision for the prosperity of our peoples,” President Murmu said, highlighting the strong foundation of bilateral relations.

During the talks, the two leaders discussed ways to further diversify trade and investment ties in areas like technology, agriculture, health, defence, and infrastructure. They also agreed to deepen cooperation under the India-Africa Forum Summit framework. “We need to continue working together to deepen cooperation in various bilateral areas,” President Murmu emphasised.

The visit marks a milestone in India-Angola relations, celebrating 40 years of diplomatic ties. President Murmu’s engagements included a ceremonial welcome, guard of honour, and a banquet lunch hosted by President Lourenço. MoUs on cooperation in fisheries and consular matters were exchanged, and Angola’s decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance and Global Biofuels Alliance was welcomed.
