The political row over the India-Pakistan Asia Cup encounter has intensified with NCP(SCP) MP Supriya Sule questioning the stand taken by the Government of India.

Speaking to reporters in Pune on Thursday, Sule said that she was shocked by the government’s stance as on one hand they say “blood and water can’t flow together” while on the other, allowing bat and ball to come together.

“If blood and water cannot flow together, then how can bat and ball come together?” she asked.

When asked about Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s announcement of a protest against the India-Pakistan match, Sule said that although she is not aware of the planned demonstration, she will speak to the alliance members.

“I am not aware if Sanjay Raut and Shiv Sena UBT are going to hold a protest. I’ll speak to the alliance members,” she said.

Following the Pahalgam attack by Pakistani terrorists, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan and launched a military operation to destroy terror camps in the neighbouring country.

However, the government’s decision to allow Indian men’s national cricket team to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 has prompted angry reactions from several quarters, including the Opposition camp.

Terming the decision to allow India and Pakistan cricket match as an act of “treason” and “shamelessness”, Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut said that the party will protest against the September 14 encounter between the arch-rivals.

Raut also announced that Shiv Sena UBT’s women’s wing will also hit the streets and launch ‘Sindoor Raksha Abhiyan’ campaign.

“We will protest against this India-Pakistan cricket match. Women will come on the streets and our campaign is ‘Sindoor Raksha Abhiyan’.You said that water and blood will not flow together. If water and blood will not flow together, then how will blood and cricket work together? This is treason, shamelessness,” he said.

After the deadly 26/11 attacks in Mumbai in 2008, India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series. However, the two teams have faced each other in ICC events.
