Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that peace and stability could be brought to Jammu and Kashmir through an honest, effective and efficient administration.

The Home Minister said this in a series of tweets after reviewing the security situation in the state in a high level meeting in which Governor NN Vohra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and top civil and police officers were present.

This was Singh’s first visit to the state after imposition of Governor’s Rule on 19 June after the BJP withdrew support to Mehbooba Mufti.

“It is our firm resolve to bring peace, stability and prosperity through an honest, effective and efficient administration for the problems facing the state.

“Discussed the way forward at a meeting with the Governor and state administration in Srinagar”, he tweeted.

“Development and good governance had remained elusive for the common people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Stressing the need for restoration of peace in the state, the Home Minister tweeted, “The dream of a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir will be realised when there is peace and normalcy in the state”.

“We are committed to take all possible measures that will bring accountability, transparency and good governance in the system,” he said.

The Home Minister, who arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday on a two-day visit, said, “With renewed focus on good governance and development the Centre is looking forward to kindle new aspirations and hopes amongst the people of the State”.

“We are committed to take all possible measures that will bring accountability, transparency and good governance in the system.

“The solution to problems lies in empowerment of the people and strengthening the institutions of local self governance,” he added.

The Home Minister’s comment came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government was committed to ensure good governance, accountability and development in Jammu-Kashmir.

Singh was unable to fly to the Amarnath shrine as the helicopters did not operate due to bad weather.
