A married couple and their two children, among five people, were killed when a speeding Canter truck hit two motorcycles on a highway in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

According to the police, the tragic mishap took place at the Tedha ki Puliya on the Gwalior-Etawah national highway number 719.

The family of four was travelling on a motorcycle and another person was riding his bike, when the truck mowed them down. According to Phoop police station Inspector Satyendra Singh Rajput, the deceased included Sunil Baghel (35), his wife Sunita (32), and sons Anshu (15), and Chotey (5).

The other person killed in the incident was identified as Bhola Khan, who was said to be an expert diver.

The police inspector said that the erring truck driver fled the spot soon after the incident, after parking the truck at the roadside at some distance from the spot of the accident.

The police sent the bodies for postmortem and launched a hunt to nab the absconding truck driver.
